21st Century Preventive Care : Are you practicing in this century ?

Dr. Pamela Maragliano-Muniz DMD

LEARNING
objectives

Assess, scale, polish. Assess, scale, polish. Dental hygienists have treated patients in this order for decades and while this approach is sufficient to remove local deposits on teeth, it does not address biofilm.

Oral biofilm has been implicated in numerous systemic conditions and dental professionals have a unique opportunity to effectively and efficiently remove biofilm.

This promotes a positive impact on oral health and mitigates the oral contribution on the exacerbation of systemic health conditions.

GBT (Guided Biofilm Therapy) has revolutionized preventive care.

Learning objectives:

  • describe the concept of GBT.
  • appreciate the benefits of implementing GBT into clinical practice.
  • understand important strategies when implementing GBT.
  • anticipate clinical benefits and patient perception of modifying the familiar dental hygiene appointment.
